2025 Training Log Part 23

On the stereo today- The Sneaker Pimps.

A week of bits and pieces.

Monday

Never skip Mondays!

Unless it’s a Bank Holiday. Then Tuesday becomes Monday.

Did nothing.

Tuesday

Never skip Tuesdays!

Except I did. Work was hectic.

Wednesday

Never skip Wednesdays if you’ve already skipped Monday and Tuesday!

Upper Body in the weight room-

  1. Single arm dumbbell press 5×5
  2. Decline bench 5×10
  3. Dumbbell Row 5×8
  4. Reverse grip cable row 3×10
  5. Weighted decline sit ups 3×15
  6. Hanging leg raise 3×15
  7. Curls 3×12
  8. Pushdowns 3×12

Sauna- 20mins

Jiu Jitsu

I actually have no idea how many rounds I did. I’ll go for 6x5mins. What I can tell you was that it was like rolling in treacle. I didn’t rehydrate properly after the sauna, and boy did it show.

Friday

Show and Go session.

  1. A) Bench Press 5×10 B) Standing Cable row 5×8
  2. A) Face Pulls 3×8 B) Cable press 3×12
  3. Ring Press 3×12
  4. Med ball planks 3x60s
  5. Preacher curls 3×15
  6. Straight bar pushdowns 3×10
  7. Gorilla Rows 3×20-18-16

On the clock and tough. Here’s the Gorilla Rows and this is how I do them. Up on your toes to prevent carrying weight through the heel. Firing your core to pull the weight to your hip. Trying not to rotate the hips to get some bracing in. Tough.

Saturday

Competition training.
15min Master Kimura Warm Up
6x3min passing rounds.
3x6min Sparring

Enjoyed that. Back was very tight from the off but the long and intense warm up really makes a difference to your ability to train. Once the oil gets moving through the joints I feel like I’m about 35 again. Not 25. 35 will do.

Training Thoughts of the Week

A fairly sticky week, for want of a better word. I’m spending a lot of time on the laptop and it really does effect your ability to train. Tight shoulders. Tight low back. Tight knees. Stiff neck. I’ve been feeling this way for about 4 weeks, so I’m looking froward to taking a break from the administrative side of what I do and getting away from the keyboard.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

It’s the end of Birthday season here. 4 of us in the house have our birthdays within one month of each other starting in early May and finishing last week. That means 4 birthday cakes and 4 special meals and so on. I’m not mental about my diet, I take time to enjoy myself and don’t always eat like a saint, but I definitely get a little soft around the middle in late May.

But this, as I say to many people, is a lifestyle choice that allows for flexibility. I train so I can eat cake. I’m not a fighter anymore. I’m not making weight.

See you on the mat!

Barry
