2025 Training Log Part 32

On the stereo today- anything and everything.

After feeling a bit ill the week before, this was a welcome return to normal.

Monday

A highly busy work day meant that I didn’t train at all. My quote is “never skip a Monday”, but I seem to be skipping a few Mondays.

Tuesday

Gym work in the morning.

  1. Single arm incline press 5×5
  2. Machine press 3×12
  3. Supported row 4×8
  4. Face pulls 3×15
  5. Weighted decline crunch 3×15
  6. Plank 3x60s
  7. A) Pushdowns 3×10 B) Curls 3×10

NoGi training. 20 minutes of first score from Single Leg X start. 4x5min rounds

Wednesday

Evening Jiu Jitsu in the Gi. Plenty of craic at this session which I use to train with lads I don’t normally roll with. But bit of a bandy knee the past few weeks from a touch of overuse meant not rolling with anyone over 80kg to rest it today. A total backfire as of course everyone was really fast which meant moving it more!

Thursday

Yoga and mobility for about an hour. So many good resources online to follow-along.

Friday

Show and Go session in the weight room.

  1. Neutral grip chins 4×8
  2. Wide grip machine row 3×15
  3. Decline press 3×10
  4. Single arm machine press 2xmax
  5. Core work
  6. Concentration curls 3×20

Saturday

NoGi Competition training.

25mins Back control starts. 6x5min rounds. The positionals are always my worst part of training. If I was judged on how I do in short drills I’d be the worst in the room every time! Doyler was down keeping me honest in the rolls so I got some great pacey rounds out of him which saved the session.

Training Thoughts of the Week

It was not my best week on the mats, but that’s okay. I’m feeling a bit fatigued since I’ve upped the intensity in training. I probably haven’t done this much NoGi training in about 4 years, so perhaps that’s showing. The old adage goes that it’s harder on the body, but I’m honestly not sure. There’s definitely a few extra scrambles that might be on the riskier side, but the toll on the fingers and hands is lower for one thing. I took on the Euros for a different challenge, but I’m enjoying the training more than I thought I would.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

Rant time. I went to dinner on Friday with my clan to a family restaurant. Burgers and ribs kind of place. Noisy with kids and TVs and music- no issues there. That’s expected. What I didn’t expect was that every 30 seconds the waitress would come over and ask us how everything was and if we were doing alright and if we needed anything else and how was the starter and how was the food and can I get you some ketchup. And over my shoulder, someone’s kid had their iPad on at full blast.

Modern life is rubbish.

See you on the mat!

Barry
