On the stereo today- A bit of 60s and 70s. The Doors, Creedance and Led Zep
I’m about 2 weeks out from the flight, and I’m ready to fight now. I’m at that point where it’s annoying to train now. I just want to be there in Rome. It almost feels at this stage like you just want it to be over with.
Monday
Gym work-
- Single arm press 5×5
- Cable row 4×8
- Staggered stance cable Press 3×10
- Face Pulls 3×12
- Weighted crunch 3×15
- Neck bridge 3x30s
- Curls 3×10
- Pushdowns 3×15
Tuesday
NoGi Training. 10 mins finishers from bad positions. 35 minutes 2 consecutive score training.
I sucked. No other word for it. I couldn’t lay a glove on anyone.
Wednesday
Morning with Roger. I think we did 6 rounds, but it could have been 5. Starting from top and bottom. I got some stuff away that I wanted to get, but not chaining things together like I’d like to be.
Evening Jiu Jitsu, about 8 rounds of good fun rolls in the Gi.
Thursday
Swimming 20 minutes. Not that I’d call what I’d do swimming, but I had limited time in the gym and wanted to get some light cardio in. On the plus side, I don’t make much progress, but I sure do expend a lot of energy.
Friday
Conditioning
- 100m row
- 15 minute block A) Dumbbell Bench x8,8, B) Standing cable row x8,8 C) Squat x8
- 3 way bridge
- Med ball squeeze press 3×20
- Ring Push up 3×15
- 1000m row
Pretty bushed after that. Tried to keep the intensity fairly high.
Saturday
NoGi Competition training. Worst session of the camp so far for me
15 mins back finishes. Couldn’t buy a choke.
45 minutes 3min rounds, 30s recovery. So about 12 rounds. Tough room. It took me about 5 rounds to really get something going. Really fatigued towards the end. A mental exercise more than anything.
Training Thoughts of the Week
On Saturday, I was in for coaching for 3 hours before training, and I underate at breakfast- I just had a flapjack and coffee. I decided to use it as a training exercise. Try to perform depleted. I didn’t do it intentionally of course, and there are plenty of times when I competed in a depleted state too. I just thought it was worth doing like that rather then bitching about my lack of food. I used to do stupid stuff like that all the time, like training without water to test my resolve.
Non-Training Thoughts of the Week
I went off on one in my house yesterday. I completely lost my shit about the state of the world and how every time I turn around someone is talking about politics, or immigration, or trans people, or flags, or any of the hot button topics we’re all assaulted with. When did politics become so all consuming? It’s horrible. I am considering moving to a desert island. It used to be something that happened in the background while you got on with your life, now it seems like everyone is an expert on IPAS centres or the rainbow flag or Trump. What about movies? Or music? Or books? Why can’t we talk about the football?
I’m currently looking up properties in the Solomon Islands. Might see you there. We can be (distant) neighbours.
See you on the mat.
