On the stereo today- Mulatu Astatke. Ethiopian Jazz, if you must know.
A lot more Gi than NoGi last week, the way the sessions went. Still, a good week of training.
Monday

- Ring Push Up 3×15
- 3 way bridge 3min
- Face Pulls 3×15

Evening Jiu Jitsu- 45 minutes of 3min rounds with 30s rest. Focusing on pace. Tough evening.
Tuesday
Nothing.
Wednesday
Evening Jiu Jitsu, about 8 rounds. I put in some work with some bigger guys.
Thursday
Swimming 400m. I think this is honestly the longest I’ve ever swam in one session. I only have 30 minutes to do something on Thursdays, and I needed something low impact and light cardio. So I did 20 lengths of the 20m pool, with just a short pause every 100m. It’s not much for a swimmer, but for me it’s quite a lot!
Friday
Conditioning
- Rower 10x 30s with 30s rest.
- 15mins A) Bench x3, B) Chin up x3, C) Squat Jump x3
- Bridging 3x1min
- Med ball squeeze press 3×20
- Reverse curls 3×15
- Curls 3×10
First effort on the rower was 165m. In my mind, I was really disappointed with it, thinking that 2 weeks earlier I’d done 175. I checked my log afterwards and realised the first effort 2 weeks ago was 164. not much in it, but nice to know I didn’t get less fit. This felt different though. More of a slog.
Saturday
NoGi Competition training. Good session.
Finishers from Back, Mount, and Side Control. Today I was focusing on finishing, taking, and re-taking the back. Then into 3 minute rounds with high intensity.
Training Thoughts of the Week
I love them both but if you make me choose, I will train in the Gi almost every time. I do like to train NoGi in the summer in particular but right now I am keen to get back in the Gi for the winter. This week, it panned out that I had more Gi sessions because of the way my schedule went, and I really enjoyed myself. You’ll note there was only 3 sessions of Jiu Jitsu though, this is because if a) work, and b) I’ve got an ankle injury I’m nursing. I made myself a pad out of a sponge cloth and some tape so I could train Saturday, and it worked fairly well, so I’ll be doing that again all week!
Non-Training Thoughts of the Week
Just one thought today. Stop calling it “Meal Prep”. It’s called “Cooking”.
See you on the mat.
