2025 Training Log Part 41

On the stereo today- The Stone Roses. RIP Mani.

I feel a bit silly filling this log in this week, as I was sick a lot of the past 10 days. I’ve had some sort of throat thing for weeks that just wouldn’t go, and eventually it put me down. I still managed to get some sessions in though.

Wednesday

Jiu Jitsu- 5 miserable rounds. Low energy, sore, tired, but done!

Saturday

Competition Training- 5 x 7 minute rounds.

Everyone else did some positional work before, I just focused on warming up my back. Had a good time and got to spar my eldest lad who is really improving.

Training Thoughts of the Week

I put a lot of work in to the Euros, and now I’m reaping the rewards of stiffness and tightness! It’s funny how the body keeps you going during busy periods, and then collapses afterwards! I felt great all during the training period up to the event, and then once it was over, I felt sore all over! I will be back on the horse this week though.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

I’ll give you a piece of advice. If you ever hear of anyone over the age of 16 saying “Jiu Jitsu is my life”, take a step back and avoid eye contact.

Jiu Jitsu can be a way of life- to help you avoid conflict, to help you eat better, to help you avoid drink or drugs, to help you socially, or to help you de-stress, be calmer in your relationships, or be more confident in work and life.

But it is not life. Not even for me.

See you on the mat,

Barry
