Really enjoyed it! I took a little while to get loose but once I did I felt really free. Whatever tightness in the low back had cleared up in the warm up, and I didn’t really feel it after that.
Training Thoughts of the Week
I remember a guy telling me that people’s Jiu Jitsu reflects their personalities, more or less. If they’re relaxed in person, they’ll have a relaxed game. If they’re loud and outspoken, you’ll see that come through. That’s why it’s such a surprise when someone is the opposite of their personality when they train. People say things like “Lovely fella- but he’s an animal on the mat!”
Non-Training Thoughts of the Week
Dealing with those different personalities is one of the most challenging things about coaching. One person’s encouragement is another’s demotivation. For me (and this is probably something to talk to a psychiatrist about) whenever I got a compliment, I would analyse it. Someone would say “Nice takedowns today” and I would think, wait, does that mean my takedowns were shit before? Or, Why is he saying that now? Is he being patronising?
See you on the mat,
Barry
