2026 Training Log Part 3

On the stereo today- Ludovico Einaudi. I am in need of some chill.

Monday

A rule of mine is “Don’t skip Mondays”. But I skipped Monday. I was too busy to get to the gym, and then too wrecked to train after 4 hours of coaching beforehand to roll with the guys. That might be how it is for the next few weeks too.

Tuesday

But I didn’t skip Tuesday!

  1. Floor Press w/u to 3rm @100kgs
  2. Single arm machine press 3×12
  3. Bench row 5×8
  4. Lat Pulldown 3×15
  5. Weighted crunch 3×15
  6. Palov press 3x45s
  7. Curls 2×15
  8. Extensions 2×20

Sauna for 20 minutes and then home.

Wednesday

Nice rolls with the crew. Wednesdays are for fun and mixing partners. I did 8×5.

Friday

Into the gym for some recovery style repetitions.

  1. Single Arm Dumbbell Press 5×5
  2. Wide grip decline press 3×15
  3. Machine row 3×15
  4. Single Arm Half Kneeling Cable Row 5×8/8
  5. Swiss Ball Plank 3x60s
  6. EZ Curls 3×15
  7. Halos 3×10
  8. Cable Hammer Curls 3×15
  9. Cable Kickbacks 2×20

Just a pump session, and then I went to the sauna and fell asleep. It’s been that kind of week.

Saturday

Jiu Jitsu.

Good warm up and then into-

12x10s bad position rounds.

5×7 minute rounds from stand up.

Working on the pass/retention score in the 10s rounds. Tough drill! And then some longer rounds to vary it. I went at it in each of the 7s. Blew my gas tank completely which is what I wanted to do. Last 3 rounds I ran on empty. Quality session.

Training Thoughts of the Week

Just 2 Jiu Jitsu sessions and 2 gym sessions last week, which is becoming the new normal for me. I want to get 3 Jiu Jitsu and 3 gym each week. That’s a lot for most people, and I do get a lot of questions about how I manage it.

  1. I sleep 8hrs per night, almost every night
  2. I eat a very high protein diet with 100g+ of protein a day
  3. I supplement with creatine, ZMA, and fish oils
  4. Lastly and most importantly, I don’t try very hard! I mainly train at 50-70% of my capacity to avoid injury and aid recovery.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

Today, and all weekend I have been thinking of Carly, a young student of mine and her family who have received such devestating news- every parent’s nightmare. If you’re of a religious persuasion, keep her in your prayers, and if you’re not, keep her in your thoughts. I am looking forward to the day that she walks on to the mat again, healthy and happy.

See you on the mat,

Barry
