2026 Training Log Part 6

My first really good training week of 2026. It’s been a long time coming!

Monday

Well now, you’ll never guess what I did last Monday. I trained without coaching! Daniel was taking the session, so I just switched off and trained some guard passing with some rounds. Loved it. I think I did 6 or 7 positionals and then 4 full rounds. Glorious.

Tuesday

Upper Body Day Push Day in the gym.

  1. Floor Press w/u to 3 at 95kgs
  2. Pec Deck max outs x3
  3. Half kneeling shoulder press 3×15,15
  4. Weighted overhead crunch 3×15
  5. Delt raise 3×12
  6. Tricep pushdowns 4×12

Wednesday

Some sparring rounds in the evening. I think about 6x5min rounds

Thursday

Upper Body Pull Day

  1. Neutral chins 5×5
  2. Reverse grip pulldown 3×15
  3. Prone row 2xmax
  4. Wobble board bridge 3x60s
  5. Bent over raise 3×12
  6. EZ Curl 3×15

Saturday

9×5 min rounds sparring from standing position. No pull for the first 2 mins. I got some nice throws and takedowns surprisingly, as I haven’t wrestled much in the last while. But on the last one I got a bad landing off an Uchi Mata right onto my knee. It was like a grapefruit that night and it’s still not great, but luckily its just an impact injury and a nasty bruise.

Training Thoughts of the Week

A brilliant week! Delighted to be back at it and on the mats! And delighted to be back in the gym. I’ll be competing towards the middle fo the year so looking forward to getting my teeth into it!

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

I’ve spent my last 8 weeks trying to get people to install a water heating system in my gym. This morning, a guy who told me he would “definitely” do it arrived, looked at it, said he’d do it, but for cash, with no cert, and no guarantees.

All I could say was, “Goodbye”.

I should have been a plumber.

See you on the mat,

Barry
