This is the best post title ever

Some days of not too much training to catch up on.

It’s Thursday and basically I haven’t done a damn thing all week thanks to my hand. It was fine until rolling on Monday night when I tweaked it a little and now it’s quite sore, sore enough to keep me out of BJJ last night. Instead I went downstairs to pad Amanda and the first punch she threw twisted it which made me feel like a right muppet. Three rounds later it wasn’t any better, and now I’m typing with one finger. So it looks like lots and lots of tape on my paw for me tonight at MMA, which shold be an intense session as it’s Amanda’s last MMA spar before her fight at Cage Contender next week. She has been preparing really hard and aside from some hairstyling issues, everything is going perfectly. I’m going to start a petition on the board in the gym, if you think Amanda should shave her head for her fight next week, sign up on the board.

Other than working Amanda really hard for this fight, there’s not too much else to report. 5 of the guys are preparing to compete in the Dublin NoGi Open this coming Saturday, which should be a good bit of fun and a good experience too as it will be a round robin tournament. The beginner’s class is as full as ever, with some promising grapplers starting to emerge from it’s ranks, and my own training, while held back a tiny bit by the sprain, is going well. Here’s the last couple of days:

Tuesday session 1B

IP Warm Up

Pull Ups (blue Band) 5×8 supersetted with

Push Ups 5×12

Reverse Hyper 3×8

SLRDL 3×12 32kgs

Didn’t do my bridging as a fighter arrived and I did some pads and light sparring

Wednesday Session 2A

Single Arm Press 5×15, 1 set with 16kg, 4 sets with 17.5kg supersetted with

Dumbell rows 5×8 32.5kg

Rool outs- 1 set of 10. Interrupted by work.

Had to go and coach then so I didn’t finish this session.

I’m currently wrapping and taping my hand in the hope that I will be able to do session 2B, which is my heaviest/favourite session of the week as I get to use a (gasp) barbell. I’ve reached the point of diminishing returns with these sessions now both in terms of what they’re offerring and my tolerance for doing them. I’m going to tweak them this week and see what I can do to shift the emphasis slightly. I’m goig to keep the rep range as standard but some of the single leg stuff will have to get heavier in terms of my attitude for it. Right now they’re all at the end of my sessions so they get the least priority, so I’ll probably switch them around slightly so that I’ll focus on them better, especially the more “rehabby” exercises like the RDLs.
