On the stereo today- Either/Or- Elliott Smith
I can’t wait to get back on the mats and start training again. but it might be another few weeks off yet. I’ll know more later when I go to the physio. Fingers crossed.
In the meantime, I can work my legs, and I can put some more thoughtful effort into my diet.
What I have is a nerve injury, which is the worst of all because it just takes rest and recovery. Time- that old chestnut- is the one thing it really needs. I can feel it improving week on week, and compared to where I was 4 weeks ago, I’m pretty happy. I didn’t sleep for about 3 of those weeks, and this morning I woke up on my left side for the first time since it happened.
Baby steps. I used to be so impatient, but I’ve improved my outlook on these things over the years.
But not my ability to sit still!

Trying to Make Myelin
So when you injure a nerve, recovery time seems to be reduced through a high fat diet. This is what the research says. So I’m gone very high fat, very low carb, very high protein also. Along with the resistance work on my legs, plus a lot of walking, I’m hoping to reduce the time it takes me to get back on the mat. I’m quite lucky. I already eat a hell of a lot of eggs, and I’m fond of oily fish and probably eat 3 portions of it a week, so I’m well set up.
A nerve, frustratingly, heals at about the same rate as your hair grows. Being bald, this is extra depressing.
Still, it’s good opportunity to really throw myself into looking after my diet and to learn something there.
See you on the mat,
Barry
