On the Stereo today- Nothing, I’m in the gym listening to kids training!
Final week of training and I think it’s gone fairly well. I’m happy with the progress during the period and I don’t think it could have gone much better.
Monday
Strength Training. Learned my lesson from the week prior that Dani runs a tough session on a Monday night. I was left with a double conditioning last week, literally getting bicep cramps during the sparring afterwards. So I went easier in the gym today
- Close Grip Bench Press 5×5
- Single arm Row 5×10
- Machine Row 5×8
- Half kneeling kettlebell press 3×10
- Side Bridging 3x45s
- EZ Curls 3×15
- Single Arm Pushdowns 3×20
Evening Jiu Jitsu. Started with top spin speed drills for 4x40s, then worked into some half guard passing. Finished with 5x5min rounds. Good session with some tough spars.
Wednesday
Morning NoGi in Roger’s. 3 man sparring with Roger and one of his big blue belts. 5 times around I think.
Evening Jiu Jitsu. 6x5min rounds.
Thursday
Conditioning.
- 20mins Bike Intervals
- 15mins A) Floor Press x10 B) Single Arm Row x8,8 C)Bodyweight Squat x10
- Bike 10mins
Tough morning that.
Friday
Recovery/Rep session
- Cable press 3×15
- Lat Pulldown 3×10
- Bent Over Raise 3×10
- Face Pulls 3×15
- Wobble board plank 3x60s
Saturday
NoGi Sparring. 10 rounds. Felt a bit drained but soldiered on. Head just wasn’t in the session, so I took one round out and did some breathing. Finished with 4 very good rounds to finish up the day.
Training Thoughts of the Week
Happy with the last week as I said, but I’ve left myself with a bit to do with respect to weight. What it means is that I have to water load. 4 litres yesterday, 5 litres today, and then the PITS, I’ll have to do another 4 litres tomorrow while travelling! Luckily, I’ve checked in online near the galley on the plane!
I’ve really enjoyed the training for this event and I feel as ready as I can be. One of the balancing acts when you’re a Masters competitor is to train enough that you get sharp, but not so much that you overclock the engine and get injured. Only time will tell if I got it right this time!!!
Non-Training Thoughts of the Week
I am locked in. I have no thoughts outside of training for the next few weeks. Don’t expect any.
See you on the mat,
Barry
