2025 Training Log Part 25

On the stereo today- Training Music! I’m writing this in the gym.

Nathan is currently working the teenagers on the mat at our MMA summer camp.

Monday

Back into training after my holiday. Apart from some light swimming and a few times in the hotel gym, I relaxed and took some time to eat, drink, and be merry.

Monday night training was 7 minute rounds. I checked the temperature before and after on the thermometer. It was 24 degrees when we started training, and close to 27 when we finished. What a night to come back!

I found this really tough after the week off, and I really didn’t get anything going at all. At one stage I found myself looking for a gap in the action for a breath with one of the younger guys. I didn’t get it and got swept with fatigue.

So it was a good session. I love those days.

Wednesday

Light 5 minute rounds with the crew. I think I did 7 of them. This shouldn’t have been tough, but it was really terrible. I felt strange and off the pace, though I got through it. I looked back on my day and saw that I’d both massively undereaten and massively under-hydrated. Just work and being busy had knocked me out of rhythm. Just goes to show!

Friday

Show and Go session.

  1. A) Bench press @40% x12, B)Dick Stick Pull Ups x3. 5 sets
  2. Incline push ups 3×15
  3. Single arm bench 5×5
  4. Ab pad crunches 3×20
  5. Curls 3×15
  6. Banded push downs 5×15

Saturday

Competition training.
15min Master Kimura Warm Up
Positionals: 8x1min rounds. 4 top 4 bottom. Top Man is 2 points down with 1 min to go and needs to pass. Bottom is 1 point down and needs to sweep or submit.

5min rounds x5.

Tough day at the office. Really great though.

Training Thoughts of the Week

When I’m on hooliday, i’m on holiday. I don’t look for places to roll or lift or run. But I do notice that a week off the mats has the effect of causing me to get stiff, so when I was away the week before, I went to the gym 3 times, and then I was in the swimming pool in the mornings I’d make a habit of doing some hip mobility work. I’m glad I did. I don’t rest, I rust.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

I have none.

See you on the mat!

Barry
