On the Stereo today- The Frames, Elbow, Pearl Jam
Ah not a great week. My back was in bits. I’m as stiff as a rock. Same every summer to be honest. If I go on holiday and there’s no gym, I just seize up. I’m like an old Ford Cortina. I need to be taken out for a spin every day or I rust.
Monday
Started the week well. A little tight in the low back, but I got on to the mat and trained with a little loosener of a warm up. Did about 6 rounds and enjoyed it.
Great!
Tuesday
Couldn’t even touch my back off the seat of the car! So just let it settle down.
Friday
Finally able to do something in the gym, I focused on some loosening out and getting the blood pumping around.
- Stair climber 10 mins
- Hip opener circuit 5 times around
- Seated T Bar row 5×12
- Single arm press 3×15
- Face Pulls 3×12
- Side Plank 3x45s
- EZ concentration curls 3×15
- Pushdowns 3×10
Long time in the sauna.
Saturday
Jumped on the mats conscious of my back and not looking for success. I did about 6 rounds in the Gi, just having some fun and doing some moving. Not trying to finish anyone or use any power. And the back felt… okay… and then didn’t feel awful the next day either, so I’ll do the same for another week or so.
Training Thoughts of the Week
Last week I was in theis section talking about how I was going to try to focus on certain positions. This week, I’m here just trying to keep myself on the mat.
Such is the journey. Man plans, God laughs, as the saying goes.
Non-Training Thoughts of the Week
I spend a lot of my time on the culture of our academy, and at the moment I think we have a really nice blend on the mats. New people have come in since our move and really added to the place, and we’ve now got more Brazilians in the academy than ever before (which is a surprise considering it’s “Brazilian” Jiu Jitsu!). It’s a noce mix and I’m enjoying coaching and watching everyone.
See you on the mat,
Barry
