So that’s me benching a whole 90kgs. Check out my feet at the lockout, very funny. Basically this time about 9 months ago I was all blown out, feeling like maybe the injury problems with my back were going to finally make me quit training seriously for anything and that I would have to restrict myself to light work for pretty much the rest of my training days. About this time I met Will, and already this is sounding like the gayest thing I’ll ever write. Anyway he and I embarked on a tempestuous affair… no we didn’t but he reckoned he could sort my back out and in turn, I would teach him how to fight a bit. 9 months later he still can’t fight for shit but my back is painless and I can bench press decent weight, pain free again after about 3-4 years of not being able to do so. Now all we have to do is get Will fight training again and I can keep up my end of the bargain. I’m also posting this because I benched that on our testing day. About 2 months ago I tested and my results were:
Body Weight 79kgs
Push Ups- 39
Bench- 85kg
Inverted Rows- 30
Pull Ups- 8
TBD- 170kgs
Last week I tested and the results were:
Body Weight 85kgs
Push Ups- 37
Bench- 90kg
Inverted Rows- 27
Pull Ups- 6
TBD- 175kgs
All of which is about representative of the lack of serious training I’ve been doing. Thankfully, even though I’ve taken my foot off the pedal of late I haven’t declined alarmingly or anything and the extra bodyweight probably accounts for almost all of the result changes.
Speaking of bodyweight, Capper was doing some assisted pull ups the other night and took some abuse from certain sections of the gym. Now Capper is back training after a few months off and has put on a few kgs, I think he’s 115kgs, Glen, on the other hand, is 70kgs. And so, here we have proof, if proof were needed, that they way to increase pull up scores is to lose your love handles. Oh and by the way in case you’re wondering why we didn’t use our harness to hold the extra weight, it’s because the harness couldn’t hold the extra weight.
And finally, you’ll all see a lot of it soon enough, but here is the new gym as it looked three days ago. This will really only give you an idea of the scale of what we’re trying to do, rather than the content, but I think you might be able to se the potential. We start our mini-tour upstairs in what will be the grappling/matted area, then down the stairs to where the boxing ring, power racks, astro turf, running track etc. will be, and then under the mezzanine (it’s a bit dark I didn’t have the lights on) to where the Muay Thai gym will be located.
Oh and lastly, even though he’s hiding behind his hand, say hello to Reuben Oglesby, born Friday 5th of June
Congrat on the new addition to the family. Reuben looks like a fighter already with that guard
One other thing, that bench is far too high
It is a collossal pain in the ass. Luckily, we won't have to worry about it anymore very soon.
your descent on the bench is a little fast, try lowering it slower and you should see improvements
Actually, I used to descend much slower until a few weeks back when my coach told me to speed up my descent and that improved me.
