I think this could well be the best idea I’ve EVER had.
Presenting the Informed Performance Annual TUF Challenge on Saturday October 10th.
So it basicaly works out like this. We form two teams from inside the gym, and those two teams fight off for the cup which I will get made for the occassion. The teams will be managed by Amanda and Dee as they’re the only two people I’m never going to get opponents for. There will be 3 competition formats- Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA- and you can fight in any one or all of those. Some guys want to do all 3 but we’ll see how that pans out on the night.
The MMA rules will be a trial of some new amateur rules I’ve been thinking about lately, the Thai will be in full sparring gear including headguards, and the BJJ can either be Gi or No-Gi. There will be a full bar in the facility and the whole idea is that you invite your friends and family along for a good night and a bit of craic to watch you and your team (hopefully) lift the cup.
This will be a full show with all the razzmatazz (I haven’t seen that word used since 1987) of a big show but with a clubmate instead of a real opponent across the ring from you. We basically need to trial all the processes and the like that we’ll be using at The Fight Before Christmas on December 12th before that happens. We also want to have a big blowout to celebrate the opening of the gym in style. So we’re going to do it by fighting, which I like. Maybe I’ll talk Paddy into having an MMA match with me too? Anyone want to see that?
you know you just want to take me down and tap me out, and lets face it I’m not exactly hard to take down.
Paddy why would I enter any fight with you without a clear advantage?
Wait until Monday morning I’ll do your conditioning session with you as a part of my rehab and let you kick me around a bit.
i want in in all them im not sayin a three way again haha
i want any in them all i not sayin 3 way again
Advantages for barry versus paddy, 1. Taller by 4 inches, 2. heavier by nearly 20kgs if not more. 3. Barry blue belt in jiu jitsu Paddy has rolled maybe 6 times in his life. 4. Barry has fought 4 pro mma fights and about 10 ametuer ones, Paddy hasn’t really even sparred one. 5. Barry has boxed and had a fair bit of thai experience. Em I think you have some fairly sizable advantages there my good man. So let me think about it till monday.
what is it with you and 3 ways grant?
I want to fight Paddy as well.
After hearing the noise’s Tom made, seeing The Giant Shane being dropped and barley being able to walk on Sunday all after sparring Paddy I think you are both Crazy.
But as I said I think Paddy and Barry should fight the 3 formats. But you use the first 2 fights to fight for equipment in the 3rd fight.
1st Fight: Thai
Paddy must connect with 25 left leg kicks = Groin Guard
Paddy must connect with a head kick = Gum Shield
Barry must do the Ali Shuffle = Right Glove
Barry does a better Wai Khru & Ram Muay = Left Glove
2nd Fight: Jiu Jitsu
Barry must tap Paddy out with a Go-Go Plata = Groin Guard
Barry must catch Paddy with a flying arm bar = Shorts
Paddy must pass Guard = Left Glove
Paddy must get neck crank Barry(ask Sebastian how to do this) = Right Glove
Then you can add in silly ones like
If Barry Ko’s Paddy in the Thai fight, Paddy must fight the 3rd fight in a Barney Costume
If Paddy Taps out Barry, Barry must fight the 3rd fight in a Storm trooper outfit
Etc, Etc
Both of you combined probably weigh the same as Will. So Barry could sit on Paddy’s shoulders and fight Will. We can even call you Baddy (Paddy + Barry) this stuff writes itself.
The only way I’m fighting Will is if i get a whip, a chair and a very large gun, and thats on the condition that i can shoot him before the fight starts.
Stephen why are Barrys tasks easies then mine, he only has to tap me out (which lets face it ain’t hard), i have to land 25 kicks I have to say i would be very tired after that. But i have to say I’m glad you found something to do in work. What about if everytime ya get hit ya have to do a shot? Between rounds you have to down a can? and the loser of the fight has to snort a tequila?
I actually didn’t think this idea of mine could be improved upon, but you guys have proved me wrong.
I actually think handicapping might be a good idea, like say Paddy has to wear the X vest during the Muay Thai, or maybe for the MMA match he gets to take some benzedrine and I have to take valium.
Well Paddy you didn’t seem too tired after leg kicking me, Tom and Shane. Plus I think you have the advantage. The Thai is first so if you kick him hard enough in that fight then his guard will be useless in the next fight as his legs will be in bits.
I like the X vest idea, that way you and Paddy will weigh the same. So that obviously means nobody has an advantage. That’s very fair and honourable of you Barry.
Or you could make it a tag team match.
