2026 Training Log Part 14

On the Stereo today- Pearl Jam

Monday

Perfect start to the week with Jiu Jitsu in the evening.
Positional rounds- Back takes from the turtle attack. This was never a strong point in my game in Gi, so always frustrating to train positionals in this way.
Rounds- 6 from the standing position. Partners varied. Prioritised movement, but need to get pulling the trigger on submissions during some rounds. Doing a bit too much cruising.

Really good session.

Tuesday

Upper Body Session

  1. 10min bike
  2. Dumbbell Incline bench 5×5
  3. Ring Push Up 3×20
  4. Lat Pulldown 3×12
  5. Prone row 5×10
  6. Flutter kicks 3×100
  7. EZ Curls 3×15
  8. Bent over raise 3×12

Rubbish. Slept badly, bad session. 3/10

Wednesday

Jiu Jitsu in the evening. Loads of craic, I messed around with everyone. It’s actually hard work you know, acting the maggot.

Thursday

Strength/Mixed Conditioning work

  1. Bike intervals 10min heart rate work
  2. Single arm press 5×10
  3. Cable Jammers 3×15
  4. Gorilla Rows 3×16
  5. Swiss Ball Plank 3x60s
  6. 3 way bridges
  7. Cable kickbacks 3×20

Kickbacks seem old school, and they’re an exercise I would have scoffed at years ago. I do them for my nerve in my injured arm. I focus on getting my arm straight and locking out the movement. They’re more rehab than strength. I hate them, but they seem to work.

Saturday

Rounds upon rounds. I think we did 12 in a mix of standing and guard pulls. I had an indifferent session, to be honest. I just wasn’t “at it”. Can’t really say why. But it’s in the bank.

Training Thoughts of the Week

After noticing a cardio deficit in the last weeks, I upped the pace on the bike in the gym before my lifting, and went a little harder on the mats. Can’t say it’s had a noticeable difference as yet, but I also don’t think I’ve really hit a rhythym yet in this training period, but training in the gym has been less fun, so that’s a pretty good indication that I’m doing the right thing.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

We’re in the middle of Birthday Season here in my house. 4 birthdays in the space of 5 weeks to really challenge your weight cutting ability! The forst was this weekend, my son turned 21. I can’t believe I have a 21 year old, but here we are. And at the end of this month, I’ll be another year older too. Damn.
