2026 Training Log Part 15

On the Stereo today- Nina Simone

Sort of a weird week. It started with the Bank Holiday, and despite my best efforts, I couldn’t get training that day. But then I got a good run of sparring towards the end of it. Pretty happy, all things considered.

Monday

Just a long walk with the dog.

Tuesday

Mixed conditioning session.

  1. 10 mins bike. 1 minute hard, 1 easy. Tough enough.
  2. A) Bench x5 B) Elevated push ups x10 C) Kettlebell push press x5, 5 15 minutes
  3. Core work.

Short and filthy upper body session. Pretty disgusting during the upper body block.

Wednesday

Posterior chain session.

  1. Mobility work x15minutes
  2. Pendlay row 5×8
  3. Lat pulldown 4×10
  4. Face pull 5×20
  5. Rear delt flyes 3×15
  6. Snatch grip deadlift 3×10

Evening Jiu Jitsu. Usually use this one as a sort of fun session to try new things and roll with the guys, but took a few better partners for this and trained a little harder. 6 decent rounds.

Thursday

Lower body work

  1. Bike 10 mins
  2. Banded squats 5×20
  3. Front squat 5×5
  4. Lying ham curl 3×15
  5. Heel elevated squats 3×20
  6. Swiss ball plank 3×60

Quick and sneaky few rounds of Jiu Jitsu in private. Just 4 but good.

Saturday

Great rounds. Started with a long mobility warm up, and then got into 8x1min rounds for securing or escaping the pass. Then I think it was 6x6min rounds.

Training Thoughts of the Week

As I said in the intro, a sort of truncated week. I aim each week to train 8 times and “never miss a Monday”. Usually I’m happy with 6, and if I’ve no target coming up, I’ll take 4 or 5. It seems a lot, but in truth a lot of my evening sessions in particular are very light as I spend the first half of the class coaching. Little and often is the key for me.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

I am locked in. I have no thoughts outside of training for the next few weeks. Don’t expect any.

See you on the mat,

Barry
