2026 Training Log Part 29

On the Stereo today- Muse. I’m sitting at my desk doing admin work, glancing now and then to my right to watch people enjoying themselves on the mat training. Miserable.

I’m still resting a back strain, so I once again found myself watching a lot of Jiu Jitsu and not doing a lot of Jiu Jitsu.

Monday

Upper Body morning in the gym

  1. Close Grip Bench w/u to 3x90kgs
  2. Incline dumbbell press 3×15
  3. Pec deck 2x max
  4. Pullover weighted decline crunch (don’t think too hard, just picture it) 3×20
  5. Plank 3x60s
  6. Pushdowns 5×10

Sauna for ages. Had to sit down for a long time afterwards.

Wednesday

Back and shoulders

  1. Seated neutral cable row 5×12
  2. Face Pulls 3×15
  3. Lat pulldown, low and slow 3×15
  4. Side plank 3x45s
  5. Flutter kicks 3×100
  6. Preacher plate curls 3×15
  7. EZ Curls 2×15

So bored…

So I did Jiu Jitsu! 4x5min rounds! Great!

Thursday

Not great. My back needs a little more time.

Friday

Lower body focusing on hip opening.

  1. Lower body mobility warm up
  2. Front squat w/u to 5x80kgs
  3. Single leg RDLs 3×15
  4. Glute ham bridges 3×20 each leg
  5. Swiss ball plank 3x60s
  6. Seated leg extensions 3×12

Still bored, but on the mend.

Training Thoughts of the Week

Very dull week. I am hoping to return this week but it’s got to be right. I would have been back already if I hadn’t come back too early the last time. I think it’s going to be Wednesday. I’m at that point where I feel there’s a bit of nerves about returning starting to kick in.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

End of this month I am starting my Masters in Sports and Exercise Psychology. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time, but there was always something in my way. Family, work, or other elements took over. But it’s finally happening. I’ll be extremely busy of course, but I am really looking forward to extending my knowledge of what I think is one of the boggest skills gaps in all of sport. We have all of the techniques of our sport online, but I have seen so many athletes fall by the wayside by not mastering their mental game.

See you on the mat,

Barry
