2026 Training Log Part 36

On the Stereo today- The Clash.

Back on the mat last week, and I had a pretty decent week of training.

Monday

Jiu Jitsu- Sparring, 1hr15min

The intention here was to do round on, round off for the full hour, but I broke that once or twice and possibly ended up doing 2 in a row a few times. Even so, it was a good and light return to action in the Gi. I think overall I did 8 rounds.

Tuesday

Back a little sore in the morning, but off to the gym for some Upper Body

  1. Bench Press w/u to 5 at 90kgs
  2. Close grip bench 2xmax
  3. Power Bag Squeeze press 3×20
  4. Side plank 3×45 each
  5. 45 back raise 3×15
  6. Pushdowns 3×12

Wednesday

About 4 rounds with the lads in the Gi. Very light, working with my students mainly.

Thursday

Upper Body Pulling

  1. Single arm supine row 5×8
  2. T-Bar Row, underhand/overhand 4×10
  3. Seated Power Cleans 3×15
  4. Flutter kicks 3×100
  5. Concentration curls 3×12
  6. Cable Hammer curls 3×15

Evening Jiu Jitsu- 10 rounds. Felt really good and in a good flow.

Friday

Aw me back!

Very tight, so gave the gym and training a miss. Same for Saturday, but it’s improving and the time between sessions is getting shorter.

Training Thoughts of the Week

First time since the early summer that I felt in good flow this week, which is a gret feeling, but in fairness it was a short lived back pain free window as I’m tight again sitting here on Monday and having a debate as to whether to train this evening (I probably will). Jiu Jitsu is such fun, and I miss it when I’m not doing it, but I only realise how much I missed it when I return!

I love the positions, the contest between positions, when it’s effortless and when it’s hard. I love the sweat, and even the pain. And the craic with the lads after too. And sharing it is my passion. I’m unashamed to say that.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

It was a week of challenges off the mat, some that I can’t mention here. All I can say is that the challenges of sport and martial arts instils some personal qualities, and reveals others. “The old ways are dying Barry”, someone said to me a few weeks ago.

Not on my watch.

See you on the mat,

Barry
