2026 Training Log Part 35

On the Stereo today- Light classical for working. I’m trying to chill.

Not a bad week on the mat and in the gym. I’m not there yet but I have returned!

  5. 45 back raise 3×10

Tuesday

NoGi morning. Return to the mats with Roger. Short and sweet. 5 rounds of 5mins. 1 warm up, 2 seated guard. 2 standing.

NoGi evening. Against my better judgement I trained a bit with the guys. Went very light and did about 7 rounds. Nowhere near match fit yet, so not stressing about the quality (which was poor).

  3. Palov press 3x45s

  5. Cable Hammer curls 3×12
  6. Standing curls 2×12

  1. Bench w/u to 8@90kgs
  2. Close grip bench 3×15
  3. Half kneeling cable row 3×15
  4. Kneeling Face Pulls 3×12
  5. Woodchoppers 3×10
  6. EZ Curls 3×15
  7. Single arm cable pushdowns 5×10

Saturday

NoGi- Round on, Round off for 1 hour. Possibly 6 rounds. Poor enough quality for most. Still not feeling totally comfortable but it will come in time I’m sure.

Training Thoughts of the Week

I’m always debating with myself whether I should just say “You’re doing alright for 48” and just accept the tightness and stiffness in training, or whether I should expect more out of myself. The outside view is usually that I’m doing well- still on the mat and training hard. The view from in my head is that I’m capable of more. One of the more difficult parts of this is seeing same-age peers in action on the mats, but then realising that you’re actually only seeing them at their best in a classic social media way. When I actually speak to them, they’re regularly off the mat with niggles and strains too. Anyway, good to be back, even if I’m not great.

Non-Training Thoughts of the Week

Speaking of people doing great, this morning I saw a man in the gym of about 75-80 years old getting after it. Deep squats with dumbbells, machine presses, band work. Got to admire that.

See you on the mat,

Barry
