I'm Updating a Lot Now…

… because in two weeks time I won’t have a second to spare.

There’s a saying that goes something along the lines of if you want something done now, give it to a busy person. Well, if you know me personally, don’t follow that advice by giving me anything extra to do in the coming weeks. My world is about to explode in several different directions and it’s going to take all my organisational skills to keep a lid on everything. This is particularly worrying because my organisational skills are legendarily bad.

Something unsettling happened a while back
I was on a webcall with Will one day and my wife was in the other room. We were talking away about I don’t know what and after we hung up I went into the next room and she said “Oh god”. I said “what?” to which she replied “If it wasn’t for the Aussie accent I wouldn’t have been able to tell which one of you was talking. It was like listening to another you”. This was worrying.

Informed Performance Update
I’m going to talk about the new gym a little bit, because Dan (our business manager) is currently in Vegas and as such can’t give out to me. To be honest so many people have been asking me about it that it has just got really annoying so I thought that putting some information here might stop people from ringing me. so here is a few updates on some of the FAQs and also some of the real story about some of the rumours going around. Seriously. We’re so famous we have rumours now.

Q: When is the gym opening?
A: The gym should be open for MMA/Muay Thai and BJJ by June. We’ve had some delays on the legal end (neither our’s nor the landlord’s fault) but these have finally been sorted so we’re just about ready to go. All of the operations currently at KO will switch at a date to be decided. The rest of the gym (weights, turf, track etc.) will arrive and be installed in stages over the months of June and July.

Q: Will I be able to go to the gym AND martial arts classes?
A: This is the most common question. Yes. It’s €79 for EVERYTHING!

Q: What sort of gym programme will I get?
A: A personalised one. This is one of the most exciting parts of what’s happening. What I do is penny ante compared to what Will does for Strength and Conditioning, Fat Loss, Muscle gain etc. He’s been in the business a long, long time (he’s much older than me) and has worked with top organisations. He’s actually a bit modest believe it or not and he never puts his profile up on websites of the athletes he’s coached and the teams he’s worked with. What he does do is tell you about them. Over and over and over. But enough about his annoying habits. What you’re going to get is great “on the mat” technical coaching, but also top class “off the mat” training from Will. What me and Will will be doing will have a lot of crossover as he’ll be involved in MMA and I’ll be involved in the S&C but one of the strengths we have is that we both recognise why we’re not able to do this alone. he’s the expert at what he does and I’ll defer to him, and I’m the expert (stop laughing) at what I do and he’ll defer to me.

Q: I heard you and Will have gone bust/had a falling out/some other bullshit. Is this true?
A: None of this is true and it’s actually surprising how many times I’ve heard variations on this. In fairness it’s probably from the same source but the chinese whisper machine has done it’s work and it sounds slightly different every time I hear it. I’ve actually heard a variation on the theme of “they’re out of business already” 3 times which is weird. Now I’m not going to say I have enemies per sé, but I suppose when you speak your mind and you do what you want to do you end up with some people’s noses out of joint. Apparently so much so that people actually want you to fail at whatever you’re trying to accomplish. Well we haven’t gone bust, in fact we’re surprisingly solvent and we actually have people ringing us trying to pay in advance of the opening. We haven’t had a falling out, not yet anyway. Things are actually going… I’m almost afraid to say it… great. Aside from delays which we were almost expecting, everything is going better than expected.

On a personal note, I’ll have a new member of my little family very soon, due in two weeks time in fact. I know it’s customary for men to crap on about how they won’t be able to sleep for ages etc. etc. but I’m happy to put up with all that and I don’t care. It’s true childless people, you get very little sleep, but it’s worth it. I feel like I’m 9 years old and Christmas is coming. That being said, if I walk by you like a zombie in a few weeks time, it’s because I was on night feeds the night before.
