Injury prevention ideas

I’ve been tinkering with the idea of committing to paper a series of prehab articles with video and pictures on the most common grappling and MMA injuries. I may run it as an article on another site (work!) or on here, depending on the format. Possibly the way I will do this is to put up a really comprehensive series of posts here, and then edit them down to get up somewhere else. I’ll see how it goes.

If the above paragraph doesn’t tell you everything you need to know  about the word ‘tinkering’ then I don’t know what will! I have lots of ideas for the blog and little time, but some of them make it to fruition, but my drafts folder is pretty full too.

So if I am to do it, here’s what I will cover:

  • Ankles
  • Knees
  • Hips
  • Lower back
  • Ribs
  • Shoulders
  • Neck
  • Hands

That’s not just a list of body parts, I’m actually thinking my way up the body stopping off at the injuries I see the most. So I would be interested in readers’ thoughts on what they see as the most common injuries or soreness in fighting, and I will try to put up something on how to lower the chances of injury in that specific area.

Also, the idea of a seminar hasn’t gone away yet either. I’m just unsure of the timing as yet. Initially, someone was supposed to be booking me and it would be open to anyone else to come along to, but that hasn’t happened due to organisational difficulties on their end. I hope to be able to do a day soon which I will host at my gym.

So give me your feedback on both of these topics either through the comment box, the contact page, or facebook and twitter.

  1. What shower gel (or talc use or whatever) prevents athletes foot and athletes body or as its charmingly called ringworm?

  2. I did some work with a dermatologist 2 years who gave me some tips on how to avoid mat borne skin infections. Maybe I’ll paraphrase him a bit for a post!
